Working together to prevent suicide in South Australia
Suicide prevention involves promoting wellbeing, addressing life’s adversities and strengthening the protective factors already present in people and their communities.
Preventing suicide requires us to address the social, economic, physical, cultural and community environments that can negatively impact wellbeing, as well as the factors within these environments that may lead to distress.
Working together to address risk and build protective factors across the lifespan can reduce and prevent distress, well before a suicidal crisis occurs. Approaches that can make a difference include extending public awareness, building skills and connections within communities, and practical and compassionate supports for individuals.
