The Suicide Prevention Council
The Suicide Prevention Council (the council) is responsible for preparing and maintaining the South Australian Suicide Prevention Plan and making recommendations on policies and programs intended to reduce suicide and enhance postvention responses. The Council advises and reports to the Minister for Health and Wellbeing.
The council commenced on 5 September 2022.
Members of the council include those with a lived experience of suicide, those working to prevent and respond to suicide in the community, those from population groups most affected by suicide, people in key leadership roles across government and a member of parliament. Members of the council are appointed based on their knowledge, skills, expertise and lived experience of suicide, necessary to enable the council to effectively carry out its functions.
