Don't let meth take hold

To address the prevalence of methamphetamine use South Australia, we are implementing a third phase of the Don’t let meth take hold campaign, aimed at raising awareness of the harms methamphetamine can cause to the brain and body.

Every single use disrupts dopamine levels in the brain which affects movement - tremors, coordination problems, and difficulty with performing simple tasks like using your phone. It even raises your risk of developing Parkinson's disease, an incurable movement disorder.

Methamphetamine doesn’t just affect your body - it can harm your mental health too. Long term use can increase your risk of paranoia, hallucinations, and aggression, as well as the development or worsening of conditions such as depression and psychosis.

The campaign targets a core audience of 18-24 year olds, skew men, where they are most engaged - from posters in metro and regional pubs and clubs to digital platforms like social media, and gaming sites. The campaign runs until 6 April 2025.

A dedicated website provides vital information, resources, and services to support current, former, and potential methamphetamine users, and their families.
