Outdoor fitness equipment
A Preventive Health SA project delivered by the University of South Australia located and audited over 200 fitness equipment stations across the state and identified good practice relating to their promotion. A workshop was held in June 2023 to share findings and amplify good practice with council staff.
Included in the findings of the project included six opportunities for good practice than can be adopted by councils to enhance use of fitness equipment stations:
- making information about outdoor fitness equipment easier to locate
- ensuring instructional information is clearly presented and appropriate for users
- regular promotion of equipment through council communications
- ensuring equipment is as visible and easily accessible as possible
- consider obtaining usage data for outdoor fitness equipment
- optimising adjacent amenities.
A list of South Australian outdoor fitness equipment locations was developed in May 2023. For more information please contact Dr Alyson Crozier, Senior Lecturer - Exercise and Sport Psychology, UniSA, at alyson.crozier@unisa.edu.au
