Strong results and behaviour change evident as LiveLighter SA Campaign returns
Our LiveLighter campaign is returning for 2026–27, encouraging South Australians to make small, practical changes to eat well, move more and support healthier choices.
First launched in South Australia on 29 June 2025, LiveLighter is a proven and evidence based public health education campaign being delivered in South Australia by Preventive Health SA and Cancer Council SA.
An independent 12-month evaluation by the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) shows the LiveLighter SA campaign is reaching more people and supporting positive changes.
More than 40% of people who had seen or heard it reported cutting down on sugary drinks in the previous month, compared with 29% of those who had not. Around one-quarter also reported eating more fruit or vegetables after viewing the advertisements.
LiveLighter SA continues to address a significant public health challenge. In South Australia, 66% of adults and 37.1% of children are living with overweight or obesity, increasing their risk of chronic conditions including type 2 diabetes, heart disease and some cancers.
Through the LiveLighter SA campaign, we pair clear information about the health risks with practical guidance and support to help South Australians make healthier choices.
It’s fantastic to see positive indications of behaviour change after our first year in market and increased understanding of the health risks associated with sugary drinks and obesity and overweight.
Sugary drinks have become a [daily] habit for many South Australians, they are the single largest source of added sugar in our diets and consumption is strongly linked to the risk of chronic disease, including cancer, heart disease and type 2 diabetes.
Reducing sugary drink consumption is a small step many people can make to support their health and wellbeing and reduce their disease risk.
The campaign is one part of a broad approach to obesity prevention in South Australia and complements work to address the systemic and environmental factors that influence health and to make healthier choices easier across the state.
