New partnership for community health and wellbeing
Preventive Health SA has established an exciting new partnership aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of Upper Yorke Peninsula communities.
The two-year partnership with the Copper Coast and Barunga West councils will create more opportunities for people to live healthy, active and connected lives.
As part of the initiative, a new Preventive Health Officer role has been created to work with the councils, community organisations and the local community to better understand the health and wellbeing needs of the region and identify practical ways to promote long-term sustainable change.
The role will also champion the existing work councils do, such as creating safe and inclusive community spaces, supporting mental wellbeing initiatives, and partnering with community groups to run activities that help people stay active, healthy and connected.
The Copper Coast and Barunga West Preventive Health Partnership will collaboratively design and deliver initiatives that will benefit the Upper Yorke Peninsula communities by helping people stay healthier for longer and reducing the impact of preventable disease.
The partnership builds on insights gained through ten Wellbeing Hubs and two Regional Preventive Health Partnerships developed in partnership between Preventive Health SA and regional and metropolitan councils over the past five years. It aims to strengthen regional councils’ preventive health capacity and improve community access to health-promoting initiatives.
